Moore and Moore Art commissions Winston Churchill
Moore and Moore Art have commissioned Danny Rolph to produce 'Winston Churchill' as part of Mr Rolph's current 'British Prime Ministers' series.
Danny Rolph’s ongoing series of paintings “the prime ministers” continues his evolving discourse relating to the topology of Painting. Each painting in this evolving series is named after a British Prime Minister in chronological order. “Churchill” which has been commissioned by Chris and Ben Moore and Stefan Barthelmes will be on a grander scale as befits the person it’s named after!
The deep sapphire blue triplewall plastic ground upon which the painterly actions occur offer up an infinite recessional space akin to the night sky. This blue ground creates an arena onto which Rolph brings his desires and inspirations into view locating a range of questions and possibilities. These inspirations are both physical (objects, places, people etc.) as well as conceptual flights (music, poetry etc.) and embody, through the paint and collaged elements that he puts on the surface, everything that he is; physically, mentally, politically, historically and economically.
‘My recent paintings possess more of a dissonant quality accentuated through marks that have a clearer association with forces such as motion, velocity and acceleration and are at odds with the quasi-architectonic structures that they circumnavigate, disassembling and reconstructing them on the same plane.’
Fragmentary combinations that appear all over the work build a psychological pleasure that pushes and pulls a viewer across the surface allowing for transgressive impulses describing the impossibility and wonder of our existence in the world.
