Biography

Rose Tang (b.1967, Taiwan) lives and works in Shanghai. Her work plays with sexual and cultural identity. Some works are derived from old photographs and represented as cultural relics and family heirlooms by presenting them, for instance, in a traditional chinese window frame and backing the transparent images with mirrors. Some works, such as those presented here, are pure confabulations, having the appearance only of old photographs. Uncertainty haunts these seductive, romantic but wry works, not least because Rose participates herself in each tableau as self-portrait, confection and chinese cipher.

In the last year Rose had more than 15 exhibitions in Asia and Europe.

In March 2007, she was part of the exhibition “Remote/control” in the MOCA, Shanghai
